British Railways came into being at midnight on 31st December 1947. After nationalisation twelve standardised locomotives were designed sharing as many common components as possible. These standard locomotives could be used throughout the country by enginemen from any of the regions.
We have grouped together BR Standard locomotives from both Bachmann Branchlines and Hornby. The Early Emblem is for the era 1948-1956, and the Late Crest for 1957-1966 . All steam locomotives were finally replaced by diesel and electric traction in 1968. On other pages you will find both Green and Blue diesel locos that in turn replaced the steam locomotives.
We normally have all available locos in stock for Eras 3 to 7 to cover the period from the grouping of the Big Four in 1923 right through to the end of the British Railways Blue TOPS era in 1982.
