The Campbeltown & Machrihanish Light Railway was a 2' 3" gauge line that ran six miles across the Kintyre Peninsular on Scotland's west coast. It was built originally to carry coal from the mines to the port of Campbeltown and later, goods and passenger traffic were added. The railway had five locomotives over its 26 year history, the first three being small 0-4-0 and 0-4-2 engines. In 1906, Andrew Barclay Sons & Co. built a new 0-6-2 side tank locomotive for the line named 'Argyll' and the following year, a sister engine named 'Atlantic'. These were pretty large engines by narrow gauge standards and were an impressive sight in their Gamboge livery, hauling the elaborate balcony ended, panelled bogie coaches. Both loco's operated up to the closing of the railway and were finally cut up in 1935. * Fully sprung 0-6-2 outside framed chassis with two double acting slide valve cylinders operated by simplified Walschaerts type valve gear. * Internal gas firing using our 'FG' type burner. * Water top-up system and water gauge. * Controls fitted as standard are :- steam regulator, safety valve, pressure gauge, displacement lubricator, gas regulator and reversing gear. * Glazed cab windows. * Dimensions are :- length 375mm, width 115mm, height 160mm, weight 4 Kg (with r/c). * Full radio control is available for both regulator and reversing valve gear using 2.4GHz equipment. * Available in any standard Roundhouse colour. * Fitted with insulated wheels as standard. * Minimum radius 2 feet. |
